Hot on the heels of the current trend for Tequila and Mescal, comes it’s little sister Sotol. Similarly to it’s siblings, Sotol is made from a desert plant (in this case Dasyliryon Wheeleri) commonly known as Desert Spoon or in Spanish, Sotol.

It has a similar taste to Tequila and Mescal but with a slightly lighter, more vegetal / floral taste.

Sotol lends itself beautifully to cocktails, giving a cleaner and lighter taste to any Tequila classic and is traditionally a cheaper alternative to the more famous Mexican spirits.

With the current, worrying decline of the Blue Agave plant which is the base ingredient in Tequila, this could be Sotol’s moment to shine.
