A good liqueur is one of the cornerstones of a good homemade cocktail.
There are plenty of good quality products out there to buy but on my travels I’ve discovered a few clever bartenders making their own flavoured spirits and liqueurs themselves so I thought I’d find out a few tricks of the trade and have a go.
The guys at The Ethicurean in the UK just outside Bristol, Flynn at Kagura (who makes some amazing Japaneese inspired concoctions) and a visit to the wonderful Archie Rose distillery, both in Sydney, provided my inspiration to get going.
So, on our travels in the UK we started our journeyby picking a load of fresh blackcurrents and letting them sit in a decent vodka for 5 months. Hopefully we’ll be mixing a decent Creme De Cassis around March next year!
Next stop will be a Limoncello and having a go at a flavoured Rum so watch this space!
